Re: Irina-Camelia Begu Cheering Thread!

Last year I kept saying I hoped things would get better after a break, but now I have no idea what could help. Full-time coach?

Re: Irina-Camelia Begu Cheering Thread!

Expected
And she will play doubles in Melbourne with Sorana, that will be a sight to see
Imagine them playing a team of pushers? They will either lose 0-6 0-6 or win 6-0 6-0
But with current form, 0-6 0-6 seems most likely

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.
Grammatikopoulou ~ Papamichail ~ Sakkari
I'm obsessed with the Greek players. Deal with it.

Re: Irina-Camelia Begu Cheering Thread!

Sadly, Irina-Camelia can't play tennis anymore. The same actually goes for Goerges as well, but one had to win here.

I really wonder when she started losing it.

My guesses.
Losing to Torro-Flor at Wimbledon R1
Then again to her at Tashkent where Irina had title's points to defend.
That 3 setter vs Cadantu in Katowice also comes to my mind.
The TB vs Schiavone is unforgettable but that was in 2012 and after few months she won Tashkent.

It really seems to me as if she is simply not made for the hard sports business as if the sport became a burden once the expectations rose. I guess it's enough with the ironic remarks - it doesn't get any better like that.

I wish her all the best, though, as long as she is happy with her choices.

This is ridiculous

When Federer says this it makes sense and it kinda makes you like him even more seeing that he accepts his "mortal" condition. But when Irina says this it strikes me as arrogance, cockiness, or whatever. Nobody wants or expects her to win EVERYTHING, because she's not, never was and never gonna be RF

But yeah, I'd be happy to see her winning back to back matches more than once a year. Apart from Seoul last year, her last two back to back wins were in Linz 2012, so 14 months ago. And let's not forget that most of the time she played against half-dead half-retired opponents. Wake up and smell the coffee, Irina!

Re: Irina-Camelia Begu Cheering Thread!

Even though Federer is of course miles ahead in terms of achievement, I guess it actually makes sense what Irina-Camellia is up to. It's a quote about the subjective perception of media pressure, but also personal justification in response to those. Federer has different expectations, but that doesn't mean that someone who is less accomplished can't feel the same when he/she also couldn't live up to the expectations other people put into him/her.

People expected her to at least become a solid Top 30 player, but injuries and a devastating coaching situations are among the reasons why she is now on the verge of dropping out of the Top 150.

What I agree, though, is that posting something like this in her situation comes across as some sort of resignation already, as she is in a downward spiral for more than a year now and not quoted that coming off of one bad tournament. She is still so young and she has game, we saw it. I wouldn't rule her out, but at this point she really seems burned out and mental issues are harder to cure than the physical problems she was having in the past.

Re: Irina-Camelia Begu Cheering Thread!

I love your attitude and optimism, Curcubeu, when you say you wouldn't rule her out just yet. I've noticed this positive touch of yours many times, not only when it comes to Irina, but also when it concerns Alex Dulgheru and her long awaited limelight comeback. Unfortunately and despite the fact I love them both, I don't see things happening for these two girls, and I don't see the logic of Irina quoting on RF on this one, because I know she's not 100% true to herself or to her fans. I'm sure she's happy playing tennis, but I'm also damn sure she's miserable giving away so many matches to lower ranked opponents. She knows what it feels to hold a trophy after a great week, I won't buy the crap that she's happy with losing qualifying matches.

All the best to her, though.

Re: Irina-Camelia Begu Cheering Thread!

There are 3 "bigger" Irina(-Camelia) Begu fB pages/profiles . I don't think too many know which is the official page (if she has one)

I , for example, thought until a few months ago that the Simona Halep page with 40k likes is official and Simona (or someone from her entourage) is posting but it seems it's a fake page owned by a retard !

Re: Irina-Camelia Begu Cheering Thread!

Australian Open Q:
(11)Shelby Rogers v Akgul Amanmuradova
Madison Brengle v Tereza Smitkova
Petra Rampre v Jovana Jaksic
Stephanie Vogt v (14)Irina-Camelia Begu

Not a bad section, I think she CAN qualify but I don't know...
She MUST get past Vogt though, otherwise that would be an embarrassing loss!

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.
Grammatikopoulou ~ Papamichail ~ Sakkari

Re: Irina-Camelia Begu Cheering Thread!

As usual easiest section of the Draw.

She has a lot of points to defend and I hope to see her not folding again under pressure. There really is a chance for her to qualify.
