Re: Fed Cup

Romania always starts with 0-1.
A good challenge for the "mental giant" Sorana.

Re: Fed Cup

Dinu hasnt been playing very well in the last year or so... Mitu would have probably played better...im guessing she had an injury or was too fatigued to play these matches but then again romanian coaching staff are renowned for having unique points of view

Dinu is more familiar playing on hard surfaces (see Lagos). Mitu played mostly on clay.

I know this draw sucked badly to begin with, but I really wonder when they will be able to put up the best squad possible.

I mean it's not about Dinu and Mitu, although the latter seems to develop nicely. There are a lot of girls ranked ahead who couldn't care less this year and even Sorana, although saving us this year hasn't played Fed Cup for ages.

Let's face it. There is no team feeling at all between them, as different as their respective games are, as different are their personalities and even though you won't hear anything directly from the players of course, you can really feel how the rivalries are boiling beneath the surface.

It's good because they push each other like that, but for a team competition like Fed Cup, it's a disaster.

Re: Fed Cup

Kudos to Sorana though for playing 2 games per day and only losing one game so far.

Re: Fed Cup

They retired in doubles... No wonder Sorana is dead in my book.

Did they retire during the game or before?

Klaffner def. Dinu 6-0 6-3

What should I say? It can only get better.

Re: Fed Cup

I found this on Sorana's page, thanks to Zvonaraver.

This photo fits nicely here especially Dinu's face waiting for the bagel order.

Re: Fed Cup

Olaru defeated Rottmann 7-6(3) 6-1

but lost doubles together with Dinu 3-6 2-6, so this rubber went to Austria as well.

Let's just forget about this year and as usual hope for some more dedication in 2014.

Re: Fed Cup

I think Romanian Federation should pay Romanian girls to play Fed Cup so everyone will play regardless of schedule. Polish Federation pay Radwanska sisters like 100.000$ to share so they always play.
