's-Hertogenbosch, NED - World #7 Maria Kirilenko has advanced to her third consecutive final and fifth of the season with a hard fought 6-3 4-6 6-4 victory over Elena Dementieva.
"I played a really solid, smart, tactical match. Elena has been the player to beat on the grass so far this season and she really blind sided me last week, I didn't stand a chance in Birmingham. I knew what to expect this time and was confident my experience would allow me to tough it out in the end." Kirilenko said after the match.
In her seventh appearance in this event, this is Kirilenko's first final. "Yeah, I never really played that well here before. I'm not sure if it's the weird name of the city, or playing on Court Michaela Krajicek that just throws me off, but I would really love to add this title to my grass court trophy case next to Birmingham and Eastbourne."
Standing between Kirilenko and the Krapjack Cup is tour veteran and fellow fan favorite, Daniela Hantuchova. "Dani and I go way back, we have played every season on tour and have a really close head to head. She is one of my good friends on tour along with Maria Sharapova and I'm pleased to see her doing well. Even though I'm the favorite, I'm expecting my toughest match yet and I will need to stay focused. Having the support of Justine Henin before a final really just completes my life and gives me all the confidence in the world. "
Win or lose, this has been something of a comeback season for the legend. "I had the season of my life in Season 5, but I really struggled last year. Falling out of the Top 10 was a huge wake-up call for me and I have really re-dedicated myself and the results are showing. I have rebounded well from my annual collapse in Australia. Since Amelia Island, I have beaten everyone in the Top 6. I'm back where I belong and look forward to my march back to #1."
