Re: S4 - 20: Tour Championships, Madrid (YEC)

Player Of The Week

Alicia Molik/Flavia Pennetta

Alicia didn't use her ace last week and as she still managed to reach the final she gets to use her ace this week and Flavia also is awarded for her great effort with 1 ace last week, both now have 2 to use at the YEC

Ivanovic * Kvitova * Serena

Re: S4 - 20: Tour Championships, Madrid (YEC)

Profiles

Alicia Molik

Coach - Harvs
Nationality - AUS
Rank - #1
Favourite Surface - Grass

W - Auckland, Sydney, 's-Hertogenbosch, Eastbourne
RU - Gold Coast, Australian Open, Birmingham, Montreal, Quebec City
SF - Strasbourg, US Open, Moscow

It's been another amazing season for Molik, reaching at least the semis in 12/19 events, she's spent most of the season ranked #1 and will end S4 as the game's top player, with 2 aces she could be a threat this week, but with the in-form Krajicek and Hantuchova in her group, it will be tough.

***

Kim Clijsters

Coach - Hashim.
Nationality - BEL
Rank - #3
Favourite Surface - Clay

W - Roland Garros, Cincinnati
RU - Sydney, Rome
SF - Montreal

Another season as the 2nd best player for Kim, she defended her RG title and finally won something off clay in Cincy, she reached numerous QFs in addition to her other good results securing her runner-up finish in the race, and with 3 aces indoors will be looking to end the season with another big title.

***

Michaella Krajicek

Coach - Imperfect Angel
Nationality - NED
Rank - #2
Favourite Surface - Grass

W - Wimbledon, Antwerp, Moscow, Quebec City
RU - Strasbourg
SF - Birmingham

A season of extremes for Misa, she did poorly on plexi, clay and hard, but had some strong results on grass (including her first major win) and absolutely dominated indoors, she's the player to beat, and it will take a special performance to prevent her from defending her title.

***

Maria Sharapova

Coach - Daniela-Is-Mine
Nationality - RUS
Rank - #4
Favourite Surface - Hard

W - US Open
RU - New Haven
SF - Sydney, Strasbourg, 's-Hertogenbosch, Antwerp, Moscow

Maria began the year at #1 but slipped to #4 despite defending her US Open title, she has 2 aces indoors, but she'll need to overcome her mental block against her nemesis Krajicek if she wants to win the title in Madrid this week.

***

Flavia Pennetta

Coach - Koonsozvo
Nationality - ITA
Rank - #5
Favourite Surface - Grass

W - Birmingham
RU - US Open
SF - Roland Garros, Wimbledon, Antwerp, Quebec City

Flavia's season came alive at RG and she continued to impress thereafter, reaching another Slam semi at Wimbledon and a final at the US Open, she was impressive with 1 ace last week and with 2 in Madrid she is a legitimate contender to win the title.

***

Maria Kirilenko

Coach - MH0861
Nationality - RUS
Rank - #6
Favourite Surface - Plexi

W - N/A
RU - Auckland, Amelia Island, Roland Garros
SF - Australian Open, Wimbledon

The people's champion had the opposite season to Pennetta, slowing down after Wimbledon but she had a terrific year at the majors with 2 semis and a final and will dazzle this week even if she has 0 aces

***

Lindsay Davenport

Coach - LDF
Nationality - USA
Rank - #7
Favourite Surface - Grass

W - Australian Open
RU - N/A
SF - Cincinnati, New Haven

When Lindsay played this season (plexi and hard), she did well but was AWOL for the rest and seems unlikely to participate this week, it seems filling in for one of the harajuku girls on Gwen's tour is more important than the YEC Still, she qualified by right, so well done Linds!

***

Daniela Hantuchova

Coach - Karat0589
Nationality - SVK
Rank - #8
Favourite Surface - Hard

W - N/A
RU - Antwerp, Moscow
SF - Australian Open, 's-Hertogenbosch, New Haven

Dani's persistence pays off and she finally makes it to the season-ending championships, due to some strong results indoors she made it here, and if it were not for Krajicek she'd surely have a few titles by now, if she can somehow crack Misa this week, then the YEC is likely to be hers.

Re: S4 - 20: Tour Championships, Madrid (YEC)

There will be a match between Vaidisova and Jankovic to determine the alternate before plays begins, so if JJ wants to send new pts, she can do so now, same for Nikki

Could easily go 0-3 this time again (like in season 2).
