Re: 2013 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

5 of 8 pre-qualifiers in singles are freshmen - Carter & Loeb (UNC), Pierson (UVA), Batra (TX) and Woolcock (UF).

Barring extremely unfortunate draws, I'm expecting Carter and Loeb to get through qualifying as well. But I'm more curious to see how the other 3 will fare. Pierson seems to have put up particularly impressive scorelines in PQ and only lost last week in the A flight final at W&M to her teammate Elbaba in 3.

Re: 2013 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

Disappointing that Ray lost in the first round. Was hoping to see her play Woolcock in the 2nd round. I wonder if the score is accurate with the matches between Ray and Fargas and Fargas and Woolcock. Identical scores, including tiebreakers.

Koelzer showed her win over Brady wasn't a fluke by advancing.

Also, Chanelle easily defeats Deheza from Texas A&M in a rematch of their epic 3 set deciding match in the NCAA semis last year. Where was that Chanelle last year?

Pressure has funny effects on people.

Chanelle turns into a pusher.

Shot of the day; Rompies' tweener, probably the best NCAA shot ever? lol.

Player of the day: Morgan Thomas, TRN 3 star recruit plays at Riviera Beat probably the best #3 dbls team Lilly/Mia with Cat This is even more shocking than Natalie/Krista beating USC and TAMU since Morgan SUBBED for Kyle.

Glad to see Lilly getting through PQ! She has been a great teammate at Georgia the past three years, rarely getting the spotlight but always working hard, good to see her with some nice results and attention!

Re: 2013 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

The prequalifying draws are out. Looks like Scandalis got bumped up to the main draw. Deheza gets in as a lucky loser. Also, Olmos and Scandalis got into the pre qualifying doubles as lucky losers. Good day all around for Scandalis.

Re: 2013 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

Beachman is silent on Gugu/Zoe being a LL ! And then I found out that LBSU team got in too
UM team deserves it since they lost in a tiebreaker against super rookie UNC duo. USC & LBSU team, less so. I would have preferred CU or East MICH team..ah well. Can't have everything.

Wait...did Ahn/Zhao get into MD?!! Lets hear what beachman has got to say about this!

Re: 2013 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

LB lost in tiebreak to UCLA frosh pair. Not sure how that got your snub as less deserving though LB pair did not play well Sunday in second match (no movement until late in match). One UCLA girls hits snot out of ball... the other is not that strong.

Odd that so many entries are withdrawing in this tournament. Seems like it would be better placed a week or so later to enable kids to have more than few days practice to figure out who is ready and who was lazy this summer?

While you are sending out silly APB's looking for comments.... why aren't you looking for your sidekick to comment on LB's 8-2 win on Sunday over that other team?

Re: 2013 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

My comments are not worse than your silly rants LBS team were SEEDED, mind you. Should have won, when you say 'the other girl' was not strong 8-2 win against UCI, what about it. And who exactly is my sidekick

Re: 2013 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

not this year

(of the two UCLA girls, not sure which was which, one could really crush the ball. The other was far less impressive... not much power at all. And I did say the LB pair played poorly as they were very stationary until late in the match).

Harrison and Thomas are a "fresh" pair, not a frosh pair. Harrison is a sophomore and Thomas is a senior. Harrison was probably the one crushing the ball (two handed on both sides).

Re: 2013 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

Many people are upset with the format changes currently being proposed for college tennis. I am one of those. I believe the product is great just the way things are. I also believe that colleges and the ITA need to do a better job of promoting college tennis. This tournament should be a showcase for womens tennis. Yet there is no live streaming, no blogging, and not even live scoring. You would think the least they could do would be to update the draws frequently! On the mens side there is at least live scoring. If this is the best the ITA can do, then I have to agree, College tennis is in trouble. Hopefully title IX will aid in keeping the womens game alive.
