Re: Race and predictions who will host the 2013 NCAA Regionals

I wish I could figure out which teams are safe, and which other teams have a reasonable chance of moving up to host, but based on point totals teams ranked 15 and 16 seem vulnerable, and teams from 17 to 24 seem to still have a chance. A better analysis would also include reviewing the schedules to see if those teams have a chance to beat higher ranked teams, including those that have a chance to get points by beating Duke with its reduced roster.

12 46.52 University of Nebraska
13 45.80 Stanford
14 45.78 Clemson University
----
15 41.21 Texas Tech University
16 38.42 Northwestern University

----------------------------------------------

17 37.10 University of Virginia
18 35.76 Vanderbilt University
19 33.90 Georgia Tech
20 33.64 Rice University
21 33.00 Arizona State University
22 32.97 Auburn University
23 32.26 Purdue University
24 32.18 University of Tennessee

Baylor should concentrate more on just getting into the NCAA's rather then worrying if their going to host a regional!

Re: Race and predictions who will host the 2013 NCAA Regionals

I think the top 16 will stay the same, as far as hosting, though the order will shuffle. Northwestern will move up. Michigan, UNC, will fall, Miami should move up.

Predictions:
Uf
Uga
A&M
UNC
Usc
Cal
UCLA
Miami
Michigan
Bama
Northwestern
Stanford
Clemson
UVA
Nebraska
Duke

Re: Race and predictions who will host the 2013 NCAA Regionals

What will these results do to the top 24 rankings and what happens to those that had top sixteen rankings last week before this: # 2 UNC lost, # 6 M lost, #10 Miami beat #2, #11 Clemson lost to # 30, #13 Virginia lost to #30, # 14 Duke lost to #69 V. Tech, # 15 Northwestern beat #16 Nebraska & # 6 Mich., # 16 Nebraska lost to #15, # 17 Tex. Tech lost to #25 Texas,#19 Baylor lost to #32 Okl. St., #22 Geo. Tech lost to #10 Miami, # 25 Texas beat # 17 Tech & # 32 OKL. St.

I just hope UCLA moves up and doesn't end up in Florida's half of the draw. I'm liking a 6 or 7 seed for UCLA.

Re: Race and predictions who will host the 2013 NCAA Regionals

The top 16 will definitely not change (unless the NCAA committee applies some degree of rational thought and removes Duke).

My estimate of the order is below. Some teams will be extremely close in ranking points (especially spots 6-10), so the final rankings will depend on the movements of some of their lower ranked opponents, but I have made my best guesses.

[1] Florida
[2] UNC
[3-4] ([3] Georgia, [4] Texas A&M)
[5] USC
[6-10] ([6] Miami(FL), [7] UCLA, [8] Alabama, [9] California, [10] Michigan)
[11] Northwestern
[12] Stanford
[13] Clemson
[14-16] ([14] Virginia, [15] Duke, [16] Nebraska)

So, my prediction for the bracket is:
[1] Florida - [16] Nebraska
[8] Alabama - [9] California
[5] USC - [12] Stanford
[4] Texas A&M - [13] Clemson
[3] Georgia - [14] Virginia
[6] Miami(FL) - [11] Northwestern
[7] UCLA - [10] Michigan
[2] UNC - [15] Duke

Unless the selection committee does something very out of the ordinary, it is almost a certainty that USC and Stanford will rematch in the sweet 16!

Re: Race and predictions who will host the 2013 NCAA Regionals

For the rest of the schools not in the top 25 elite.. it's the rest of the bracket that is like putting together a puzzle.

Predict current # 42 Washington will be the first team left out. They played the individual tourney at Ojai (no points gained) while Illinois will get a decimal pt for beating Michigan State AND they are hosting the NCAA's.

IF the committee follows the 300 mile rule and then actually tries to actually balance the brackets (high 1, weak 2, high 3, weak 4)....

Out west,

Only one # 2... UCI should just hold on at # 32... so bank on them going to USC which is the toughest # 1 thus getting a weak # 2.

There look to be five 3's to fill four spots (SD State, St Mary's, Long Beach, Pepperdine, UNLV) within the 300 mile radius travel rule. So somebody is going to get to travel. UNLV has to go to LA or travel, SD State has to go to LA or travel. Lots of options but someone is going to get a rare chance to travel.

How rare is travel: LB has never left CA in 9 previous trips... 3 times @ UCLA, 1 @ USC, 2 @ Stanford, 1 @ Fresno State. Ironically when going to Stanford and Fresno they still had LB play Pepperdine... who they play annually anyway (except this year). This system is so predictable and uninspiring due to the mileage rule and always having at least 4 sites in CA. Kind of sucks for the ladies on the west coast schools that regular make it but get the same experience every year.

Two # 4's... SJ State and Sac State. Bank on them filling the Cal & Stanford regionals.

I think it's almost certain a Big 12 School will be sent to A&M's site. Would bet that TCU is the #2 seed at that site.
