Re: Ranking 2012-3

As suspected, Stella goes back to the old doubles pairings for the tournament. Good to see Chanelle on the list!

Re: Ranking 2012-3

UCLA makes the semis, barely missing out on the finals, but stays at 7?

The consensus on the forum is that the computer treats the loss as a loss, whether it is barely missing out 3-4 or a lopsided 1-6.

Well that's what happens when you beat the No. 1, 3, 4, and 5-ranked teams in a span of five days...

To be fair, UCLA did jump Miami, but I think the gap between them and USC was too large--especially since USC survived to the Quarters before losing to Stanford.

Yes, UCLA did jump Miami but UCLA also got further than Miami did in the tournament and UCLA also beat Miami at National Team Indoors.

Also, USC did not make it to the quarters. They lost to Stanford in the Round of 16.

I don't care too much for the ranking system. I just wanted to throw out a comment for my team. UCLA's ranking probably suffered because of the losses they had during the regular season. I guess they really only took into account the NCAA tournament's results for Stanford. It didn't seem to affect other teams.

I can't wait for next season! I think we will get a winner other than Florida or Stanford.

Re: Ranking 2012-3

The final rankings do not treat the NCAA tournament results any different from regular season results, except for the following:

Bonus points for NCAA Team Championships
Advance to second Round - 1 point added to overall average
Round of 16 - 2 points
Quarterfinals - 3 points
Semifinals - 4 points
Final - 6 points
Champion - Automatically ranked No. 1

Thanks for the clarification!

Let's see...that's 16 points plus another 10 points for beating USC and another 11 points for beating Florida (+37 points)

Admittedly I don't know about this, and I'm just guessing, but I don't see the bonus points per round being added cumulatively. Applying the math to Florida, makes it look like the bonus points are by round reached, rather than cumulatively. But please, check my math.

Yes, from what I gather, it's the round reached.
