Big 12

For mboyle who lives in Texas

First post starts with an upset

from Ok. St.'s website;

No. 51 Oklahoma State 4, No. 6 Texas 3

April 22, 2012 | Stillwater, Okla. | DeBois Tennis Complex

DOUBLES | Order of finish: 3,1,2

No. 1 – No. 58 Malika Rose/Kanyapat Narattana (OSU) def. Krista Damico/C. Gaytan-Leach (UT) 8-4
No. 2 – No. 42 Lina Padegimaite/Noel Scott (UT) def. Mary Jeremiah/Meghan Blevins (OSU) 8-5
No. 3 –C.C. Sardinha/Isabela Miro (OSU) def. Elizabeth Begley/Aeriel Ellis (UT) 8-4

SINGLES | Order of finish: 5,6,1,4,3,2*

No. 1 – No. 62 Krista Damico (UT) def. C.C. Sardinha (OSU) 6-1, 6-3
No. 2 – Malika Rose (OSU) def. No. 30 Aeriel Ellis (UT) 6-4, 4-6, 6-2

Ellis is having a BAAAD year..

No. 3 – Meghan Blevins (OSU) def. Noel Scott (UT) 6-2, 6-4

I guess this isn't an upset? Wasn't Blevins quite highly ranked at TRN?

No. 4 – Kanyapat Narattana (OSU) def. C. Gaytan-Leach (UT) 7-6(5), 6-2

No. 5 – Lina Padegimaite (UT) def. Mary Jeremiah (OSU) 6-0, 6-1

Hmm, they played Lina at #5

No. 6 – Elizabeth Begley (UT) def. Isabela Miro (OSU) 6-2, 6-4

Re: Big 12

from BU website on Joey Scrivano;

"Scrivano knew about Baylor and its tennis facilities prior to taking the job. He got a look at the BU tennis program and facilities during the 2002 season when he brought his then-40th ranked South Alabama team to the Baylor Tennis Center and promptly handed Baylor's 19th-ranked women's team a 7-0 blanking."

"Scrivano joined the South Alabama staff in 1999 as a men's and women's assistant coach. He helped guide the women's program to a first-ever NCAA Elite Eight appearance beating No. 8 UCLA and No. 9 Pepperdine along the way."

"During his tenure at South Alabama, Scrivano tutored All-Americans Martina Ondrejkova and Iva Puflerova. Puflerova and Ondrejkova won the 1999 National Claycourt Doubles Championship and he guided them to the 2000 Final Four of the NCAA Doubles Championship. He also coached the combined men's and women's squad that upset Stanford, ranked No. 1 nationally, to win the 2000 World Team Tennis National Championship. "

ooh, he knows how to 'handle' Stanford

"My goal has always been to win a national championship, and it's nice to be at a school that shares that goal."

I've known Malika for nearly 4 years and we've become really close. I have never been so proud of her than this match. Sadly, I heard Ellis' mother was ill and passed away a couple of weeks ago, so I think that has something to do with it. My condolences to Aeriel and her family.

Re: Big 12

BU probably has the hugest vacuum to fill next season, what with #1~3 all graduating

So far they recruited only Budai

I thought another US player had a verbal? Can't find now.

Re: Big 12

mboyle, since you now reside in Texas, shouldn't you choose one 'local' team to support?

Don't they have Alex Leatu transferring in next year?

Re: Big 12

Rachael Reed signed NLI with BU, so all 3 vacancies are filled up I guess.

So next season BU has the following foregin players;

Burgic, Budai

That's it

Re: Big 12

How does Texas look next yr? I know the got Breuanna Addison who will be a great addition, but they always seem to be missing a solid #2 and #3 players like the Top 5-10 teams have to really break through. Hopefully they will be getting another one as they lose Krista Damico who has been a great player for Texas.

Sanford, Leatu / Burgic, Horter, Kosakowski / Budai, Reed

That'll be BU's squad next season
