Re: Pac 12

So, which is better, Leimbach/Nelson/Fink or Nelson/Fink/Sanchez(Fansler) or Santamaria/Lao/Scandal?

My vote would be for Leimbach, Nelson, and Fink. That was a scary trio!

Re: Pac 12

GEEZ are the people from USC doing the PAC-12 player of the week honors? Zoe Scandalis now selected this week!

2013 Pac-12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Jan. 22 Sabrina Santamaria, USC
Jan. 29 Giuliana Olmos, USC

Feb. 5 Lacey Smyth, Arizona
Feb. 12 Danielle Lao, USC
Feb. 19 Lacey Smyth, Arizona
Feb. 26 Kyle McPhillips, UCLA
March 5 Ellie Yates, USC
March 12 Sabrina Santamaria, USC

March 19 Zoe Scandalis, USC

Almost all of their lineup have gotten the honors, I bet next week either Gabrielle Desimone or Kaithlyn Christian are gonna get it. How about giving it to some more deserving players, such as Nicole Long from Oregon who has yet to lose a match or Nicole Gibbs who went 6-0 and beat 28 ranked Aeriel Ellis and 12th ranked doubles team from Texas. Or even Annett Schutting who also went 6-0 at the top position in singles and doubles! Robin Anderson went 4-0 while beating 70 ranked Bekerova from Utah and also beat 21th ranked Bekerova/Miles. SO UNFAIR!

Re: Pac 12

I thought it was the player of the WEEK, I see that STAN beat UT on Mar. 10. Gibbsy should've competed against Sabrina, who downed Robin easily, so..

But yeah, USC is sweeping the honors...

Re: Pac 12

Thx David for telling us your 'more deserving' candidates

So I looked up the ITA results page, and Nicole is playing #1 now for UO

And;

3/17/2013 Dual Match Pos. #1 Liudmila Vasilieva #60 Washington State University Win 6-1, 3-6, 6-3
3/15/2013 Dual Match Pos. #1 Andjela Nemcevic #42 University of Washington Win 6-0, 7-5

Nicole certainly seems to be a good choice.

Saw Anett play at SDSU, and she won in 3.

3/17/2013 Dual Match Pos. #1 Julia Wais #57 San Diego State University Win 6-3, 4-6, 6-2

Robin beat;

3/16/2013 Dual Match Pos. #1 Julyette Steur University of Colorado Win 6-4, 7-5
3/15/2013 Dual Match Pos. #1 #70 Tereza Bekerova #69 University of Utah Win 6-1, 6-0

I do think that Nicole's achievement is the best among those candidates, too bad

Re: Pac 12

But David, I wonder what you think about Lacey winning twice, as a player of ASU's rival UA

Re: Pac 12

I'm glad Lacey won it twice lol she is from my native San Diego and I've watched her play a few times, well deserved IMO. Scandalis didn't even get a ranked win or when Yates won, she was playing the six position yet she got so much recognition for being undefeated when Nicole Long is undefeated while playing the # 1 position. I feel bad for Arizona they've lost to Utah and Colorado, giving Colorado their first Pac-12 win. I just hope ASU keeps their momentum and hopefully get to defeat one of the top 4 Pac-12 teams.

Re: Pac 12

Yeah I know that I was referring more on the ASU v. AU rivalry, which the only reason I support Lacey is because she is from my city. Personally Scandalis' award was not as deserving as when Lacey Smyth got it twice! Scandalis form is not where its supposed to be she has a 10-6 record, lost to UCLA's #5 player and yet still ranked 26! This time last year she was 25-7 and she qualified for Carlsbad only to get double bagel by Christina Mchale. Maria Sanchez is the prime example of getting better as time goes by. I remember watching her play in ITA regionals consolation semi-final against Leyla Entekhabi and losing, but now she is just outside the top 100 on the wta and where is Entekhabi? Scandalis I believed had a great opportunity to transition to the pros, now I differ. USC seems to get blue chip and 5 star players and turn them into 4 stars cough Allison Ramos cough Sarah Fansler cough Cristala Andrews cough Lyndsay Kinstler cough

Re: Pac 12

3/16/2013 Dual Match Pos. #2 Sarah Pham #69 University of Utah Win 6-0, 6-1
3/15/2013 Dual Match Pos. #2 Winde Janssens University of Colorado Win 6-0, 6-0

I actually saw Zoe play those two matches and Winde was a quality player, and Sarah could be a dangerous opponent; yet see the score.

Before that she beat

3/8/2013 Dual Match Pos. #3 #58 Kyle McPhillips #4 UCLA Win 6-3, 6-1

Yes Zoe lost to Cat, but UCLA #5 Cat Harrison could be a dangerous opponent since she's a very flat hitter; when she's on, she's pretty impressive.

Why she's ranked 26th? You know that she's WAATC semifinalist, beating Krista to make that semi?

And Zoe is only a sophomore Still a long way to go.

What past week? STAN last played on Mar 10th, so no Cardinals were eligible for the Pac 12 player of the WEEK THIS week

Stanford players were eligible for the week before, and you can't really beat Sabrina beating Robin, the reigning Indoors champ at #1, in such an easy score, too. Sabrina's win of THAT week was entirely justified, imo
