I'm thinking that Cal is doing a good job of "uncovering hidden" top junior talent, and then getting some improvement out of them while in school. (even that I'm on the side of feeling some public colleges have too many international players. But I give Cal credit for finding real talent, and not just falling into the assumption some coaches do that all imports are better then buying American.) Gawd, thats awful writing, I need to either erase this or drink some coffee. Or both.

The creativeness of Cal writer;

"We played two top-five teams back-to-back this weekend, so it is a good learning experience," said head coach Amanda Augustus. "Fortunately, we still have the opportunity and the time to work on some of the things we didn't do well today. We've got another opportunity, next week [against sixth-ranked Stanford] and [the conference title] is still up for grabs."

So not USC, not CAL, but UCLA does it; slays the Tree at its home turf!!

So mentally strong, UCLA..

"Bruins snap Stanford's 157-match regular-season home winning streak."

they deserve it :angel:

So for USC, you must defeat UCLA, and to have the better head to head the winner of the Northern rivalry match must be Cal. right??

And for UCLA, UCLA must defeat USC, and cheer that the winner of the Northern rivalry is Stanford.

And for Cal, Cal must defeat Stanford, and would cheer for UCLA in the Southern rivlary match.

And Stanford, would need to defeat Cal, and would be cheering for USC in the Southern Rivalry.

-and maybe even more permutations exist.

#50 ·
After this weekend's thrilling tennis, I'm trying to make sense of the PAC-12 standings.

Is this part correct??

Cal 1 conference counting lose to USC- Cal Still to play Stanford
Stanford 1 conference counting lose to UCLA - Stanford Still to play Cal
UCLA 1 coference counting lose to Cal - UCLA still to play USC
USC 1 conference counting lose to Stanford - USC still to play UCLA

And after next weekend, there will be two teams 1 lose teams, and depending on the head to head between 1 lose teams determines the conference winner??

first, I want to apologize to gouci;

about KRISTA :lol:

So, Gibbsy lost to Robin in 2 :eek: (Zoe :scared: I'll have to root hard for her come Friday :lol: )

That is shocking, and it doesn't bode well for the future.

So, Krista should play #1 come next season, since she obliterated Robin last year at the National.

Now, Stanford can't afford to lose a SINGLE position. Especially if Ahn's injury continues to plague her..

Now of course, Gibbsy can 'redeem' it by defeating Robin at Ojai or at Athens, we'll see..?

#57 ·
I feel like players improve at UCLA. McCall Jones, Kaitlyn Ray..and now Robin Anderson.
Morton too, shocking that she beat Tsay so easily, who obliterated KK the day before..

So, the #1 match between Robin and Zoe, they already met 3 times this season :lol:

at UNLV invite;
Semifinals - Jan. 14
[1] #1 Mallory Burdette (STAN) def. [4] #18 Sabrina Santamaria (USC) - 6-4, 6-3
[5] #19 Zoë Scandalis (USC) def. [2] #8 Robin Anderson (UCLA) - 6-0, 6-2

at team indoors semi;
(1) #19 Zoe Scandalis (USC) vs. #8 Robin Anderson (UCLA) - 4-6, 6-2, 2-4 susp.

at dual match at USC;
(1) #5 Robin Anderson (UCLA) def. #13 Zoe Scandalis (USC) - 6-3, 6-3

As you see, it got worse and worse for Zoe :eek:

If Zoe wants to stay at #1, she gotta stop this trend. AT LATC. (Because General Lao beat Zsofi Susanyi, who beat Anderson AT LATC)
LATC is a formidable home court too, they don't lose there, only to Stanford :lol:

So it'll be a good test for Zoe's mental strength also.
Will she collapse? Or will she rebound? We'll see. I'm going to record a significant amount of time on this match.

from STAN website;

"Stanford was handed its first regular-season home loss since a 5-4 defeat to California back on Feb. 27, 1999, snapping a streak of 157 consecutive wins that spanned 13 years. The Cardinal's overall 184-match winning streak at Taube Family Tennis Stadium was snapped last May in a 4-3 loss to Florida in the national championship.

That being said, Saturday's loss to top-ranked UCLA- which had not beaten Stanford since Feb. 26, 2010- won't dismiss the Cardinal as a contender for the national title. "

So we should no longer be able to hear about that 'record', shouldn't we? :aparty:

Really, everyone should thank the Bruins :lol: Let's name Apr 14 'The Bruin's day' to commemorate the memorable occasion! :lol:
Now when was the 'Gators day'? :lol:

#62 ·
So CAL plays AT Stanford this weekend.

CAL should 'strike while the iron is hot' :devil: (When STAN is reeling from the shock :lol: )

I like to see a different matchup in sgl #1.

Let Mal play #1, since she seems to be playing well.

Jana and Gibbsy met twice already, at NCAA semi and also NW R semi last year.

Did Mal and Jana ever meet before? Could be real interesting, no? :lol:

It's good for Stanford since Gibbsy beat Zsofi recently? so :shrug:

#64 ·
In fact, Zoe fared worse and worse against Jana, too..

10/7/2011 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships Round of 16 #8 Jana Juricova #10 California Loss 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(6)

11/4/2011 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiates Championships Round of 16 #8 Jana Juricova #10 California Loss 6-3, 6-3

4/14/2012 Dual Match Pos. #1 #8 Jana Juricova #10 California Loss 6-1, 6-0

No more 'scandals' :sobbing:

I think she'll need to acquire some more weapons during the off-season..

Can she at least serve better, for now..?

from UCLA website;

"The only thing up in the air is figuring out which team will get the Pac-12's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Assuming UCLA beats USC, the Bruins will get the automatic bid if Stanford downs Cal on Saturday. The only way UCLA will not get the automatic bid with a win is if Cal wins. The Bears own the head-to-head over UCLA by virtue of a 4-3 win in Berkeley on April 13."

"Speaking of Ray, she won her 26th straight match against the Cardinal, improving to 29-2 overall and 21-0 in dual matches. She is tied for the team lead in singles wins with Anderson, who is 29-6 overall."

#73 ·
fantic, who is that maya girl on the team? i knew the coach went to israel and i guess recruited her? I've seen her on some of the girls facebooks but I don't know who she is :lol: does she play?

#77 ·
Thanks! I saw that after I asked haha I thought I saw her in the team pictures so I wasn't sure.

#76 ·
from USC website;

" to snap a stretch of six straight losses to the rival Bruins. USC's 6-1 win over No. 1 UCLA also secured at least a share of the Pac-12 Championship for the Women of Troy, who improve to 20-3 overall and hold a 9-1 record in conference play to finish atop the Pac-12 standings.

USC, UCLA, Stanford and California all entered this final week of the regular season with just one Pac-12 loss apiece. The Cardinal (7-1) and the Bears (8-1) will play tomorrow, and regardless of the outcome USC will share the rights to the Pac-12 Championship title with one of those teams thanks to today's win. USC last claimed a conference title in 2009 -- also the last time the Trojans had beaten the Bruins."

:bigcry: (tears of joy)
