Topsy Turvy?

Re: 2012 Kick Off Weekend

Thoughts about Duke:

1. Really worried about Kahan's season. I have no idea why she isn't winning more this year. She has such a big game, and she didn't miss much last year. Maybe she's off this year? Haven't seen her play, but I hope she can really hit her stride.
2. Pleasantly surprised with how well Mar is playing. Let's see what happens when she's up against the top teams.
3. Jamie seems to be protecting Turewicz for some reason. She didn't play too many tournaments, and she hasn't played most of the dual matches, but is literally undefeated in her collegiate career, and promises to be a force.
4. Clayton is her usual self, winning quite convincingly. I think what separates her from the top ten collegiate players is a plan B. Her A game is superb, but she historically hasn't done as well pulling out tough matches when her A game isn't working. Let's see if that changes this year.
5. I think Duke is going to look very different from past years. Last year, until the wheels fell off at the end, we won over 90% of matches at positions 3-6, but only 30% at 1 and 40% at 2. This year, by contrast, I would be surprised if any player were below 50%, but I'd also be surprised if any player were over 90%. I would predict 1 and 6 will be strongest and 3 and 4 the most challenging. The good news, in my mind, is that both Kahan and Goldfield are great players who could come into their own.

Turewicz is injured. She has torn ligaments in her wrist and a shifted tendon in her other wrist/hand. I saw her the other week with braces and ice packs on both wrists so I'm sure he is trying to limit her play to get her healthy.

And I was able to watch some Duke matches this year and I personally thought they looked very strong.
