As everyone that reads these boards knows I am pro-international, but THIS is something I have a hard time understanding. Why go through the trouble of getting foreign players if you are going to get bad ones?

Amen.. had same thought for years.

But further points out how few US kids that play 'quality' (four star or higher) tennis there are and/or that are interested in attending 2/3 of the colleges.. with or without money. Many come from upper middle class or higher money... they'll give up tennis and walk on before they will lower themselves to many schools. Look at the number of decent juniors that have walked on at the USC's and UCLA's never ever to play... rather than take scholarship money from a non 'big name' school.

Re: Teams with 100% foreign players

Don't most D1 teams have mostly international rosters? Is it even noteworthy that these teams don't have Americans?

I think a thread of decent D1 teams with 100% American rosters would be more interesting.

Yes, because Stanford does not recruit. They choose.

Re: Teams with 100% foreign players

I think it's pretty safe to say that most American coaches would have teams full of Americans if they could be competitive with them. I don't give Stanford that much "credit" for choosing the best Americans. Sometimes gouci's xenophobia makes me hate to admit it, but much more respect IMO for schools like Texas Tech and UCI that manage to be very competitive by recruiting and developing American girls that Stanford and Texas pass up on.

Lamar is another one

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.

Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.

The transformation of BU is amazing.

Next season, only Burgic and Budai are the foreign players.

Re: Teams with 100% foreign players

Just a thought... when the 4-peat USC men's team (just 4.5 scholarships on the mens side) has 6 foreign players... including 4 in the starting line up... that's 66% playing... then I'd suggest the issue is not foreign players but the incredibley poor junior development system in the US that can't produce enough TALENTED players to fill the college line ups.

College opportunities are a privelege, not a citizenship right.

Bravo to coaches that do not accept death but pursue talent. Though I am still laughing (in agreement) at the post that said 'if you are going foreign, why are you getting lousy ones?

Out
