Re: SEC Women Tennis 2011

So the tournament is at hand!

UA and UGA can meet again, this is their last meeting, per Amal's post above;

RESULTS

Doubles
1. No. 19 Guarachi/McLane (UA) def. Fuller/Gilchrist (UGA) 8-3
2. Gullickson/Jerjomina (UGA) def. Foehse/Macfarlane (UA) 8-3
3. Kimbell/Kowase (UGA) def. Lindsey/Ebada (UA) 8-6

Order of Finish: 1,2,3

Curious paring by UGA, and it does the job, sacrificing #1 and winning the lower
positions.

Singles
1. No. 8 Chelsey Gullickson (UGA) def. Mary Anne Macfarlane (UA) 6-3, 6-3
2. No. 56 Alexa Guarachi (UA) def. Nadja Gilchrist (UGA) 6-4, 6-2
3. Courtney McLane (UA) def. No. 50 Maho Kowase (UGA) 3-6, 6-2, 6-3
4. Lilly Kimbell (UGA) def. Alex Clay (UA) 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(3)
5. Antonia Foehse (UA) def. No. 80 Kate Fuller (UGA) 6-1, 7-5
6. Taylor Lindsey (UA) def. Alina Jerjomina (UGA) 6-3, 6-2

Order of Finish: 2,1,6,5,3*,4

Re: SEC Women Tennis 2011

from UGA website;

"Georgia has posted an all-time record of 45-18 in the SEC tournament in route to six SEC tournament titles, with the most recent coming in 2009. The Bulldogs also won the tournament in 1983, 1994, 2001, 2007 and 2008."

And then Embree and Will arrived..

Wow, UF links the opponent's team player's profiles in the news result page, very thoughtful

I have no idea but I heard a rumor she won't be playing until the NCAA tournament (if that). Apparently she is having some sort of issue with her arm that will need surgery, but she's waiting until after the season is over.

Thanks for the info! I was told she is having some sort of circulation problem in her arm that is really weird, once again not sure how accurate this is because this is the same person that told me she wasn't playing until the NCAA tournament and that she went in for surgery but decided to put if off until the end of the season.

Re: SEC Women Tennis 2011

Today's results

#28 South Carolina def. Kentucky 5-0

#36 Arkansas def. #41 LSU 4-1
*Arkansas was seeded 10 in the tournament and LSU was 7 so a minor upset in that regard, but not upset if you look at their ITA rankings.

#23 Vanderbilt def. Mississippi State 4-0
Omg Mississippi State Only fielded four players and their #1 retired after the first set.

Serena Williams
Victoria Azarenka Venus Williams
Sloane Stephens Christina McHale

Re: SEC Women Tennis 2011

Georgia beats Alabama 4-2, great result considering they lost 4-3 last time, lost FIVE first sets in singles, and still don't have Lauren back.

They play Florida, who beat Ole Miss 4-0, in the final tomorrow.

Re: SEC Women Tennis 2011

Georgia is really testing Florida in the final.

Embree just beat Gullickson 7-5 in the 3rd to put Florida up 3-1, so they will likely pull it out, but what a performance from UGA without Herring.

Re: SEC Women Tennis 2011

Match isn't over yet.

These teams always battle, it is a great rivalry in women's tennis and has been for years.

Glad to see Florida get pushed this weekend. They haven't been challenged at all since the UGA match, so this will prepare them for NCAA's.
