Re: 2008 Fall Regional Tournaments

I'm really excited because there are two women's tournaments at my school this fall. This weekend we have the Cissie Leary Invitational, and I know Princeton will be there, among other schools, but I'm excited to see their freshmen.

Even more exciting is that we're hosting the ITA Fall Regional for the Eastern section, so all the Ivies will be here, along with UVA and some other big schools. I'm really looking forward to checking out all of the action, and I'll definitely report back here!

Re: 2008 Fall Regional Tournaments

Question for tucker1989.
Is freshman Jordan Schaffer a walk-on or a scholarship player?

It's too bad UC Irvine and Penn are not playing this year. They have had good Spring Break matches the last 5 years.

I'm pretty sure she's a walk-on, as is Daniela DePaoli, another freshman, and they both played in the Cissie Leary this past weekend.

San Diego State Fall Tennis Classic #1

Michigan, San Diego St., Arizona and San Diego played in this 10/3/08 tournament.

SDSU Fall Tennis Classic 1 results

Some interesting results:

1. Juliette Coupez - San Diego defeated #26 Danielle Steinberg - Arizona 6-4,6-1.
Also defeated Denise Muresan - Michigan 2-6,6-4,7-5
San Diego may have added a #1 type player in Coupez.

2. The tier 1 bracket was won by Ariane Masschelein - Arizona transfer from Indiana St.
She defeated Samantha Mouly - San Diego 6-0,7-5, #117 Holly Bagshaw - San Diego St. 6-1,6-1 and in the finals Coupez - San Diego 7-6,6-1.
Long Beach State fan must be ecstatic at how Rachel Manasse beat Masschelein 6-2,6-4 at the Cal Invite.

3. The tier 2 bracket was won by freshman Sarah Landsman - Arizona who beat Rika Tatsuno - Michigan 6-2,6-3.
Landsman also defeated #90 Tania Mahtami - Michigan 6-3,6-2
Landsman is making a name for herself also having defeated #64 Hannah Grady - Long Beach St. 2-6,7-6,10-8 at the Cal Invite after losing the 1st set no less!
Arizona looks to be ranked again with Steinberg, Masschelein and Landsman.
